Reading Enhancements (10th Oct 17 at 4:34am UTC)Quote Reply
Hello Friends
With your Kindle, you can learn more about the books you’re reading, look up words in a dictionary, expand your vocabulary, view word hints, and translate the text in your Kindle book. Help for Kindle Paperwhite (5th Generation).

Use Smart Lookup to Learn More About a Book
Using the Smart Lookup feature on Kindle, you can access definitions, characters, settings, and more without leaving your page or losing your place in a book.
While reading, press and hold a word or phrase, and then release to launch the Smart Lookupwindow. Smart Lookup will identify the type of term you're looking up and adjust the tabs accordingly.
•Dictionary: Review the definition of a word you’ve selected, or tap the name of your dictionary to select another dictionary that is installed on your device. To see the full definition, tap More, and then tap Open Dictionary. You can tap or swipe to turn pages within the dictionary, or tap the Back button in the toolbar to resume reading.
•X-Ray: Learn more about the character, term, or concept. Tap Open X-Ray to display relevant passages. You can filter by Notable Clips or All Mentions. The dots in the timeline show all of the locations where a character or term is mentioned. Tap a dot to view mentions from that location. Tap a passage to go to its location. When you're finished, tap the Back < button to return to the X-Ray dialog box, or tap the x to resume reading.
•Note: X-Ray is not available for all Kindle books. If X-Ray is not available for the book, the X-Rayoption is grayed out.
•Wikipedia: Tap Open Wikipedia to view more information about a word or concept from Wikipedia. To use Wikipedia, your Kindle must be connected to a wireless network. When you're finished, tap outside the Smart Lookup window to return to your book.
Expand Your Vocabulary
When you look up words in the dictionary, they are automatically added to the Vocabulary Builder on your device. With Vocabulary Builder, you can use flashcards to learn the definitions and usage of words.
Note: Vocabulary Builder currently supports content purchased from the Kindle Store and personal documents sent through the Send to Kindle application or Kindle Personal Document Service. It does not currently support personal documents that were transferred to your device via USB. To learn more, go to Send Documents and Web Pages to Your Kindle.
•From Home, tap Vocabulary Builder.
Note: Vocabulary Builder appears as a title on the On Device tab.
•Tap to filter the list of words:
oWords tab – all words you looked up in the dictionary
oBooks tab – words you looked up in a specific book
oLearning – words that are available as flashcards
oMastered – words you marked as mastered and are no longer included in the flashcards
•From the list, tap a word to view the Dictionary definition and Usage of the word. Tap outside the window to return to the list. Tap Delete to remove the word from Vocabulary Builder.
•To use flashcards:

1.Tap Flashcards, and then swipe to flip through the flashcards.
2.Tap Mark as Mastered to move a word from the Learning list to the Mastered list.
3.Tap Exit Flashcards to return to the full list of words.
To turn off Vocabulary Builder, tap the Menu icon, tap Settings, tap Reading Options, and then tap Vocabulary Builder. Words will not be added to Vocabulary Builder when it is turned off.
See Hints for Difficult Words with Word Wise
With Word Wise, you can see simple definitions and synonyms displayed inline above more difficult words while you read.
Word Wise makes it easier for readers to understand challenging books more quickly.
Note: Word Wise is only available in books in English and is not enabled on all Kindle books. You can verify whether the feature is available by checking for "Word Wise: Enabled" or "Word Wise: Not Enabled" on the product detail pages of Kindle books.
To turn Word Wise on or off:

1.From Home, tap Menu, then tap Settings.
2.Select Reading Options, then Language Learning.
3.Next to Word Wise, tap On or Off.
You can tap a word displaying Word Wise hints to see the dictionary definition of the word or rate the helpfulness of the hint.
To adjust the difficulty of the words showing hints, tap Word Wise in the lower right corner of the screen while reading. Drag or tap the slider between “Fewer Hints” and “More Hints.” You can also choose to Show or Hide hints from this screen.
Translate Text Using Instant Translations
While reading, you can select text and then use Instant Translations to translate the text to a different language.
To use Instant Translations, your Kindle needs to be connected to a wireless network. To learn more, go to Connect Wirelessly.
1.While reading, press and drag to highlight the text you want to translate.
2.In the pop-up menu, tap More, tap Translation, and then select the language to translate the selection into.

Thanks
